But since the inception of the BCS back in the late 90's, there really has only been one school added to the power structure that was not a replacement for a lost school, and that is Utah to the Pac12 five years ago..
Only three have really been added to the power structure since the BCS deemed six conferences BCS conferences. Louisville replaced VT and Miami in the Big East and eventually made their way to the ACC to replace Maryland, and TCU did pretty much the same on their way to the B12 to replace one of their lost members. Everyone else from that original Big East is in one of the other 5 conferences now except for Temple. Other than those three in the last 20 years, no one else has made the cut.
Now the B12 is saying they may elevate as many as four teams to P5 status overnight. ESPN is paying three of those four about $2M a year right now, and the B12 wants them to increase that payout for the same team to about $30M a year.
I see why ESPN and Fox are balking.
